At Bell, we take every effort to make all our Childrens’ Days truly memorable occasions. Many of our Bell families have wonderful and exotic pets at home, and we had to contrive a social gathering to bring all pets to school, so everyone can learn more about the diversity of pets and enjoy them! It is a scientifically proven fact that children who grow up having pets at home are more compassionate and benevolent in their adulthood. In an attempt to encourage our families to have pets, Bell school organized a Pet Show, the first of its kind to be organized in any school. The Chief Guest was Mr.Prakash, District collector. The Pet Show had different venues for different categories of pets. Different events for the day had also been planned, like a Pet Parade, Pet Vet corner, Old McDonald's Farm animals (a petting zoo) and so on. One of the main attractions of the Pet Show was the Fancy Dress event, with giant Great Danes dressed as Ballerinas and pugs dressed as officers! In the Reptiles section, a Spider, Turtle and a Scorpion made entries as pets!

All participants registered ahead and collected Pet Show badges from our school office. The organizers of the event were Bell School show co-ordinators, a local Pet shop owner (Eden Aquarium) and the Tamil Nadu Animal Husbandry department. A team of over 10 leading veterinarians judged the competitions and managed the event.

We had 5 categories: Dogs, Cats, Birds, Fishes. A category called ‘Reptiles, Rodents & the Rest’, had any other pet that did not fall into the first four categories. Each category had its own venue, events and separate prizes. There was also a ‘Pet Parade’ at the opening of the show where all pets that could walk (or be carried by its owners) paraded around the playground for a special ‘Best of the Pet Parade’ Prize. There was also a Veterinarian’s Counter, where a team of Vets answered any questions relating to any pet and also vaccinated them..

The following content is archived from instructions before the Pet show.

Tip1 DOGS: Quite predictably, dogs will form the largest category of pets. Nearly 200 of our children at Bell School have dogs. The dogs venue will be the auditorium and the open space behind Orchid Refectory.
tip2 CATS: Cats and Felines, all varieties of them, (including tigers and lions - if you have any!) will be a separate category. Events are at different times to Dogs. Please check this webpage again shortly for the time, or refer noticeboards.
tip3 BIRDS: All kinds of birds, be it a parrot or a pigeon will come under this category. Please bring your birds in cages and make sure they are properly locked up. Don't let anyone accidentally let them fly. Venue is behind PreKG block.
tip4 FISHES: You have to bring your own tanks for fishes. Please transport them early, or the previous evening to get the best places in the venue. Electric Sockets for air pumps and filters will be provided.
RODENTS, REPTILES and the Rest: Any pet that does not come under the categories above will be here. This includes mammals like Goats, Cows and even snakes! (if you have any!) The venue is isolated at the playground.
