Bell School successfully organized the ECO Mini Marathon 2007 on the 3rd of November 2007! With excellent participation by the students (most of whom had completed the full course), many parents also participated eagerly in the event. Despite the unexpected monsoon rain just as the District Police Commissioner Mr.Manjunatha flagged off the marathon, the students eagerly ran, and were almost dry by the time they finished! An excellent rainbow greeted the eager eco-kids as they finished the marathon successfully. Mr.Sanjay Gunasingh won the first prize in the parents' category consecutively for the second time.

Eco Marathon

ARCHIVED INFORMATION (Oct 2007) Marathons are not a new fad in Bell School. Once every 7 years, we have organized grand marathons! Our inaugural Mega-marathon (in 1993) was a 80 km course to Cape Comorin - Kanyakumari ! Over 100 children participated and nearly all of them completed the course. The amazing thing was, they did not run... they rollerskated! In 2000, our second marathon was a public event involving over 200 members of the public, and of course, our students, in a 6 km course similar to the current, 2007 marathon. We expect a participation of over 1000 students and members of the public. The marathon course is shown in the map with landmarks. The 2007 Eco marathon involves 3 simple steps:

All participants can collect their eco badges and caps from our school office anytime before the marathon. The dress code is Green tops and any comfortable shorts, pants or trousers. Participants can also print their badges from home, using our Eco Club Logo. Although it is not necessary for public to wear badges, we encourage the usage! First Aid points, and checkpoints from which tokens can be collected are shown below.

Tip1 Wear comfortable running shoes. Tie the knot tightly so that they don’t untie when you run. Because you will run mostly on the paved roads, foam shoes would be best as they don't absorb heat. Or else use canvas shoes!
tip2 JOG, Don't RUN! Six kilometres is not a short distance! If you do not jog regularly, you may find it very difficult to finish the marathon. So conserve your energy, run slowly, but very steadily! It takes 45 minutes (avg) to complete the course.
tip3 Keep drinking water as you run. There are eight checkpoints where water or lime juice will be provided. Carry small packs of Glucose to regain your energy whenever you feel exhausted. If you practised regularly, it would be a breeze!
tip4 Practice timed jogging! All students were given jogging training in school for a week. This marathon will finish only after all the students have finished running the entire 6 km course! Buses will follow to pick up students who can't finish.
